The first UNESCO City of Film

Bradford is now recognised as the world's first official UNESCO City of Film.

Announced in June 2009, this new elevated status means Bradford is now even more focussed on film, whilst the entire film world continues to focus more on Bradford.  All of this is part of Bradford’s successful and major regeneration, making Bradford the world’s best City in which to enjoy, to learn about, to learn and express creativity through film and screen based media.

The 2020 vision sees Bradford as a major film destination at the the heart of it's development, identity and day to day life. Touching all aspects of life in Bradford; local people, our institutions, employers, businesses, voluntary and community organisations and visitors. Famous nationally and internationally, no-one should live, work or visit Bradford without knowing they are in the world’s first City of Film.

Bradford is becoming a world-class place to enjoy film, learn about film and through film, make film, and visit because of film.

Striding towards this goal, City of Film has a clear long-term strategy to build on what already exists.  The plan is bold, ambitious, and achieveable.  Bradford City of Film is owned and delivered by every major institution, business, voluntary organisation and community group.  Film is starting to become embedded into every area of Bradford life.

As a Film destination, Bradford has the Bradford Movie Trail which can be enjoyed in a day, weekend or longer, celebrating and relishing in film.

Visit the National Media Museum, the only national museum dedicated to Film, TV and Media in the UK and home to the largest permanent 3D cinema screen in the world. Spend some time and visit our film locations and places of film history and relax by enjoying the many films you can see here.

When you see what we have to offer you’ll see why by 2020 we want Bradford to be known nationally and internationally as the destination to enjoy film related activities, with new businesses, new physical developments and new visitor attractions and services to make your time here even better.
